Welcome!
Welcome to the homepage of the e-Rotaract Club of Rotary District 7490. We have received our official charter from Rotary International as the world's second Cyber-Rotaract club. We are the first such club to be founded by RYLA alumni.
e-Rotaract of District 7490
Networked Service Community (NSC) Model e-Rotaract of District 7490 founded by RYLA 7490 alumni and their Rotary advisors. The club aims to implement Rotary International's vision of a "networked service organization" free from geographical restrictions and administered entirely on the internet. To that end, Club founders have pioneered the Network Service Community (NSC) Model. Club members meet by chat room, conference calls, and online discussions to organize community service and fund raising events like the Autumn Adventure Weekend. The Rotaract Club also administers the official organization of the annual RYLA 7490 Conference, thus perpetuating the community most responsible for its existence.
The NSC Model is a logical extension of the email-based network used extensively in District 7490 to organize the RYLA conference and maintain general fellowship and community amongst geographically dispersed RYLA alumni and Rotary advisors since 1998. As RYLA 7490 alumni graduate college and enter the professional world the NSC Model can be used to elevate the RYLA ideals into the professional and vocational community. As a result Rotary is strengthened by young leaders trained in its own creedo of Service Above Self.
Rotary, Rotaract and RYLA
Rotary Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders dedicated to providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations, and helping build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 countries. Rotary District 7490 administers Rotary International operations for Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties in New Jersey.
Rotaract Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family. Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and Rotaract clubs have access to many of the resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 8,000 Rotaract clubs in some 155 countries and geographic areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. Rotaractors also often spearhead the formation of Interact clubs and participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotaractors also can go on to become Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team members.
Cyber Rotaract At its February 2003 meeting the RI Board of Directors agreed to support the establishment of cyber Rotaract clubs as a three-year pilot project. Using electronic technology as the primary means of communication among members, the pilot project is testing an alternative Rotaract club model. The cyber clubs may help promote membership growth and retention for Rotaract clubs that struggle to hold regular meetings and expand membership. Any Rotaract club, either newly formed or currently active, that wishes to participate in the pilot project may apply.
